Hood River is arguably one of the most beautiful, fastest-growing locations in the US. It’s not hard to see why. As a local, there are some places you cannot miss while in the area. Whether you’re planning a wedding from afar or just visiting and looking for things to do, this guide’s for you!
This post includes places both in and around Hood River and the Columbia River Gorge, and there is a toll bridge between White Salmon, WA and Hood River, OR. There also is not Uber in Hood River, so plan accordingly!
Where to Eat
pFriem
Award winning beer, a pimento cheese burger… you can’t miss this spot! Try the Pilsner or any of the barrel aged beers (my favorite is La Mur).
Solstice
Wood-fired pizza and delicious cocktails!
Grasslands BBQ
Yummy bbq served out of a food truck at the waterfront? I’m in. Be sure to check their hours before you go!
Double Mountain Brewery
Obviously I’m going to give you at least two options for pizza!
White Salmon Baking Co.
I’m here at least once a week eating a sausage breakfast sandwich and a cardamom bun. If you only listen to my advice about one place to go… this is it. If you’re around on a Monday, do not miss pizza night here!
Everybody’s Brewing
Catch me here eating nachos way more often than it’s acceptable to eat nachos…
Pixan Tacos
A great place for margs!
5 O’Clock Somewhere
COR Cellars
My personal favorite (okay yes I used to work there); COR has the most beautiful space, decorated beautifully by the owner. They also have private tents for a more private tasting experience.
Stave & Stone
This winery has two locations, one downtown and one at their vineyard. If you can make it out to the vineyard, do! They have a great view! I recommend the Legacy Flight… tasty food pairings? Mhm.
Hood River Common House
This place is a freakin’ gem. They have beer & wine on tap, but they also have a huge selection of beer & wine to go. If you like sour beers, see what they have from Dwinell Country Ales. So good.
Analemma Wine
Analemma uses biodynamic farming and makes some incredible wines! It’s always a beautiful experience there.
Gorge White House
Tasty ciders, conveniently located food truck, U-pick fruit and flowers! They’ve got it all.
Wy’east Vineyards
Dog friendly & views of alpacas! And check out their food truck, Wheels!
Buona Notte Wines
I won’t pretend I didn’t buy my first bottle from Buona Notte because I loved the label, but know I’ve kept buying them for the taste!
Hiyu Wine Farm
I actually have not been here yet, but I’ve heard AMAZING things, and going to one of their farm dinners is on my list!
What to Do
Wine Tours
Yep, more wine… There might not be Uber in Hood River, but there are a few services that’ll drive you and your crew around to some wineries (or you can bike!). Sounds like a dream, right? Check out MountNBarrel or Martin’s Gorge Tours.
Movie Night
At Skylight Theater, you can grab pizza & drinks and watch a movie! You can even rent out a whole theater for a private viewing; it’s the best thing ever.
Whitewater Rafting
Hit up Wet Planet for some whitewater rafting! You’re in Hood River after all!
SUP & Kayak
Get out on the water with Hood River Sup & Kayak!
Hike
There’s no shortage of trails in the Gorge! Some favorites are Wahclella Falls, Rowena Plateau Trail, and Tamanawas Falls (on the way up to Mt. Hood). If you go to Tamanawas, stop at Grateful Vineyard on the way back for more pizza, drinks, and a stunning view of the mountain!
Bike the Mosier Tunnels
The Mosier Twin Tunnels, just east of Hood River, have amazing views down the gorge. The whole way is paved, so this is a great place for a leisurely walk or bike ride! Rent bikes at Fat Tire Farm or Mountain View Cycles!
Go Sailing
Take advantage of those famous gorge winds and book a sailing tour with Gorge Sail Ventures!
You’ll realize quickly how magical of a place Hood River is! If I can help with any other recommendations, reach out!
